New year healthy choices

2020 you beautiful thing.

Steve and I are coming on 3 weeks since we started our healthy life action.
I can see many improvements in us both.
For me:
I have seen the extra layer I acquired diminish.
I have more energy.
I am more confidence
I have less pain in my body (well besides the muscle soreness)
I feel overall better.

Steve and I have strengthened our relationship also, because we do it together.
A couple that grows together stays together…I think that’s how the quote goes.

Anyway, we decided to start with small steps.

New mantra in life “small things lead to big things”

Starting small also helps to be consistent. I used to always go at everything new full bore. Then I would burnout and no new habits were built. Going at it in small steps, I’m not overwhelming every one of my muscles and senses.

One example of small steps I used was when I quit smoking 🚬. I smoked for a long time. When I decided it was time to be done, I woke up and talked myself out of smoking an hour at a time.
I would say to myself “I’ve already come this far, why would I start again now?” Another hour, another pep talk.
I took quitting hour by hour on the first day. Then it was bumped up to a half a day, then a full day, then a week, and I was finished.

It works. Just keep giving yourself a pep talk. One step at a time.

Here is what we started:

15 minute full body stretching and a 15 minute workout (either a HIIT video or cardio machine) 5 days a week and some kind of active outing on the weekends.

We cut out soda (didn’t drink a ton anyway)

We cut out fast food (it is so easy to pop over to a Wendy’s to grab a cheap meal)

We cook more healthy food and grabbed healthier snacks for our lunches

We both committed to more financial education and personal development as well

I also am working toward journaling daily. I’ve missed a few days and I plan to work on commitment to the journal.

It’s really important to write things down for me. Pen to paper and in one place. I have so many sheets of thoughts or lessons or quotes that I heard, I have to do a little project and put them all together in an organized way.

We have cooked some amazing meals also! We don’t let our healthy life deter us from great food. We just cook our food instead of buying it. This saves us going out money too, along with the accompanying alcohol drink that we would typically have with our outing to make us feel like adults, lol.

I have been using a wall calendar to track workouts and dinners. It is great to see what we have done.

That’s where I’m at. Not perfect but I’m getting better every day!
How are your goals coming along??
