Goals and How I am Working Them Now

So I had a thought before the new year and I am really striving to structure life in some kind of organized chaos. I set goals for 2019 that are strong and I had to figure out a means to get this year done right!

I went out and bought a huge pad of paper that I could hang on the wall instead of a white board. I decided I liked the thought of keeping the things I felt important enough to map out on this thing. It would help me in future trainings that I am feeling compelled to put together. I am laying the groundwork for women I can inspire in the future.

Anyway, on this pad of paper on the wall, I wrote my goals:
1. 10 renovation projects
2. Own a home again
3. $250,000 after tax income
4. Pay back the loans that I have been given over the years that are outstanding
5. Create a passive income stream

These goals are not something that I am taking lightly. I felt that they were strong and difficult, but attainable if I have a plan on how to do it.

Here is what I am doing currently to meet my goals and keep myself accountable.

1. I have created a “notebook” in One Note (a Microsoft product that is awesome btw)

My notebook is my journal of all things life. I created an easy template to copy and paste daily so I can remember to add all the things in there that are important. I also downloaded a few apps on my phone for random inspiration.

In my journal notebook I have a daily motivational quote, a daily buddaism, and my mindfulness statement of the day. I also have a section for what I did today, and what I am grateful for. After those items are filled out, if I feel the need to add thoughts, or memories, or sentiments, or whatever, I write that below.
This all clears my head, reminds me of what I accomplished in a day, and shows that even the little things matter. I allow myself to reflect on the random mindfulness and random quotes I see during the day. It’s been a really great habit for me.

2. My wall notepad

I explained this a little at the beginning but the purpose of the wall sheets is that I can continuously see my goals, write any random thoughts I have, write tasks that I need to accomplish, brainstorm, and keep it in physical form. I know that I could just get a whiteboard, write my things down, take a photo and then erase and start over, but for me, the photos get lost in the files of photos I have on my computer and I don’t look at them much again. These pieces of paper I can post where ever I want, whenever I want. It’s awesome for me.

3. A calendar I hung on the wall under my pad of paper

This is super important.  We have amazing technology available to us. Everyone has access to awesome productivity apps and things that we can use in our phones to make life easier. I know that, for me, my calendar in my phone is only used for appointments I have. I don’t pay attention to the reminders I place on that calendar for things I want to remember. I use the calendar that I can write on and erase and add to and color on.

I have also decided that our goal achieving timelines are going to revolve around our birthdays. It is a target that is easy to remember, and we have things that we want to do for our birthdays so we are incentivized to work harder toward those goals. I chose to count the days from the day I started the calendar and in green marker I wrote the number of days left until my birthday since my birthday is in the first part of the year. Then I did the same thing for my honey’s birthday. It allowed me to conceptualize how many days I actually had left to get stuff done and it makes me more productive during the day. I guess having a finite amount of time to get stuff done really motivates.

I also have my bill pay dates so I don’t get busy and forget to pay things (pretty soon I will have a VA to handle these things for me, but for now I get to do it)

4. Creating micro goals to reach the macro ones

I have been working on the day to day items that need to be completed to get to where I want to be. I know that I must have 1.2 houses a month to reach my goal of ten. It seems like a small feat but it is actually a huge endeavor. The amount of effort it takes to get one house is quite a lot. Every day, however, I am looking at houses, scheduling showings, analyzing houses after I see the repairs needed and constantly working on improving technique and knowledge of the areas we want to focus on.

I also need to make around 500,000 gross to hit my after tax income goal. I have narrowed this down to 50k profit a house or a combination to average it out to 50k per house gross. Now I have a target to hit and if I can’t consistently find deals with that kind of profit, I have to likely do more than ten houses. It is the law of averages. One goal affects the other goal so they have to be figured out. The means to achieve what  you want are the same. You have to figure out what work you need to do daily to reach that number. Law of averages people! I need to know how many houses it takes making offers on to get my deals. 10 houses to get one? 50 houses to get one? 150? Once I have the data from 2019, I will know what I can scale in 2020!

5. I built myself a team

Nothing better than an accountability partner that has common goals! I have surrounded myself with people who want to be on board with what I want and will support me, work with me, and help facilitate creativity in me. It took me a while to find those partnerships, but it is like a loving relationship. You have to open up the inner dialogue of what you want, then be that person who will attract what you seek. My partners and I are in sync. Every time I feel a certain way about a situation, I pick up the phone to discuss with my partner, she basically says what I was going to say before I even mutter a word. It is an amazing thing.

I hope that you find something in all this that you can use in your life to set some goals and hold yourself accountable. I needed to get this out there because it has had a great impact on the first weeks of 2019. I feel motivated and excited to see what I can accomplish in a years time.

Cheers 2019! You are going to ROCK!
