Stay classy ladies

Sitting watching the reflection of the sun and sail on the light waves of Lake Calhoun, I reflect on my day and my week.
This week especially for some reason I have been complimented on my clothing on several occasions. Of course it is mostly guys and only a couple of women that have commented. I respond with a smile and a sincere “thank you” to the admirers of my wardrobe and I am sure other things. Becoming acutely aware of the fact that people get complimented all the time for things, I listen to the dialogue. Someone pays a compliment to another, whether their intentions are pure or not is irrelevant, the usual retort from women is thanks with an eye roll, or a “whatever.” It is rare that I hear a thank you so much or even a slight conversation after the fact unless it is coming from another woman.

Kudos to the guys who have the balls to speak up and compliment a pretty girl walking down the street in passing. It takes a little excitement and a lot of thought in that split second that he saw you walking down the street and wanted to pay you a compliment.  I mean, how often do us women see a guy and decide to compliment something on them? Most women only compliment other women and even that they don’t do often.

I’m not going to lie, I know that when I am walking down the street I exude confidence and I wear clothing that attracts attention. When I get dressed in the morning I am usually dressing to impress or at least grab attention. It is something that I chose to do! I like the compliments as much as I like being pleasing on the eyes.

I am blown away when women respond rudely to men who offer attention to them by paying them a compliment. No guy actually thinks that complimenting you on a particular article of clothing is going to get you to go all gaga over him but he appreciated you, even for a moment, enough to say so! You don’t have to get trapped into anything by thanking someone for a compliment! They were just being nice!

Kindness comes in all different forms. When someone is being kind to you, stay classy, say thank you with a warm smile and carry on with your life. Remember that something you wore today made someone’s life a little more pleasant for a moment.
